I enjoy fishing swimbaits for bass, but am always stumped with all the different kinds out there. With most baits costing $20 at the least, you don't want a bad bait.

What I want to know is what kind of swimbaits you guys use to catch the big ones. Any bait, 8 inches or less, hard or soft, floater or sinker, is what I prefer.

Thanks (in advance) for your suggestions. Please show a picture of the bait if possible.

Gander Mountain carries a solid body swimbait for about $3 in different sizes and colors. I like the fact you don't have to rig the solid bodies perfect for them to work, like on hollow bodies. Sometimes rig them on their sides and pop them off the bottom like a jigging spoon. Works on walleye pretty good.

I use Storm Wild-eye Swim Shad in shad and baby bass color .  I recently bought Storm Wild-eye Swim Bluegill also but haven't tried them yet.

I have had good results with the Wild Eye Bluegill baits. Not great, but reasonable. Tom

These are the swimbaits I am working with...

They are hard baits made by SPRO.  I watched a video on a fishing show last winter and decided to invest in them, give them a try if ya know what I mean.  They are floating, fast drop and slow drop.  The cost on them was $19.99 each!  I swore that I would never pay that much for a bait that would go in my tackle box...I have yet to catch a fish with them but I won't give up!  They sure look like a real fish when reeling them in!  Good luck!

I know someone who uses Lucky Craft Live Pointers (the segmented ones) for pike! He says he only goes through 5 or 6 a season. At $20 a pop those are some expensive pike. Funny thing is he buys the cheapest rod and reel combos out there.

Hey Turnip, please do tell when you catch a fish on your Spro BBZ.

Alot of You guys are reccomending those storms. I might need to get some.

$3 is alot better than $20

I own a bait very similar to yours, its Tru-Tungsten's 4-inch Tru-Life swimbait.

It to is $20, and I also have yet to catch a fish on it. I got it right before the end of summer so I'll be able to use it next spring.

When is the best time to use a hard swim bait? I can use the soft ones spring thru fall on walleye. Is pre/post spawn the best time for bass or is it summer ?
